Born on 25th June 1961, Dayo Apata attended the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State where he sat for and passed University of Cambridge Higher School Local Examination in 1980. He proceeds to the University of Ibadan where he graduated amongst the first set of Law graduates in 1984. He was called to Nigeria Bar in 1985 and also obtained Master in Public Administration in 2007.
Mr Apata served in the Legal Unit of Nigeria Customs Service as a Prosecuting Officer (NYSC).
He joined the Federal Civil Service and was posted to Federal Ministry of Justice as Legal Officer.
He worked with the Eastern Zone of Nigeria Customs Service as an Assistant Legal Adviser, Prosecuting and Defending Customs cases in the Eastern Geopolitical Zone .He was at the Federal Ministry of Justice in the Civil Litigation Department.
He was with the Legal Unit of the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel as an Assistant Legal Adviser He was appointed as Personal Assistant to the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice
He worked as the Legal Adviser to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation as the Head of the Unit Defending Federal Government in Courts, Drafting Legal Agreements and Proffering Legal Advice.
He went on to become the Legal Adviser to the National Planning Commission. He was head of Legal Unit Presidency, State Coordinator, National Economic Council before becoming the Ekiti State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, a position he currently holds.
